Our History

Henson Lloyd commenced trading on the 1 July 1994. We acquired a small practice known as Burgan & Associates which was located at 164 Angas Street and had approximately $150,000 of accounting revenue. At the time we had only 1.5 accountants and a receptionist.

After two years, we changed the name to Henson & Associates and due to substantial growth and additional staff we required a move to 91 Halifax Street. Our staff numbers and our revenue had doubled since the acquisition.

Two years later we required another move as the premises at Halifax Street also became too small and additional people were required to accommodate the growing client base. This growth precipitated a move to South Tce. Adelaide in the Master Builders Building. The turnover now was approximately $1,000,000 and our staff numbers had increased to 10.

In 2003, Barrie Lloyd joined the practice and the practice changed its name to Henson Lloyd. Wayne had previously worked for Barrie at Walker Wayland Accountants. The addition of Barrie, his clients and staff triggered another move to our current location at Level 2, 229 Greenhill Road.

In 2017, Barrie decided it was time to retire and this gave birth to the current business Henson Lloyd Accountants Pty Ltd. The previous partnership dissolved and the new company was formed. After the business was incorporated, Wayne was joined by Emma Gesuato and Lachlan Smyth as fellow company directors and equity shareholders

Henson Lloyd today has over 20 employees and a revenue base just under $3,000,000. The growth in the business over the last three decades is a reflection of the quality service we provide and the relationship we have with our clients. The services that Henson Lloyd provides clients today has evolved significantly over the last 30 years and we are in a position to accommodate the complete range of services that satisfy our client’s needs.

Wayne Henson

He understands the complexities of the business environment and is well positioned to assist businesses achieve better results. He balances this against the capabilities required to operate both in a competitive and collaborative environment, resulting in the delivery of effective recommendations that influence positive outcomes for you and your organisation.

Lachlan Smyth


Lachlan has worked in the accounting profession with Henson Lloyd Accountants Pty Ltd since graduating from the University of South Australia in 2004 with a Bachelor of Commerce. He commenced as a Graduate Accountant and has since worked his way up to Senior Accountant, and was appointed as a Company Director in 2018.

Lachlan specialises in partnering with small to medium size enterprises and professional clients on general accounting, taxation and business advisory. His experience spans a diversity of industries including: Medicos, Trade, Retail, Automotive, Wine, Primary Production and Not For Profits.

Lachlan has a passion in connecting with likeminded business leaders to implement change to better their organisation. Lachlan and his team do this through the provision of dedicated support and getting to thoroughly know the business to make value adding decisions and contributions.

Emma Gesuato


Emma has over 20 years’ experience in the accounting profession and has been at Henson Lloyd Accountants for 15 years. After graduating from the University of South Australia she completed further studies by becoming a Chartered Accountant and also holds a Public Practice Certificate. Most recently Emma has been appointed a Company Director with Henson Lloyd.

Emma’s strength is to manage and lead a team to ensure a high level of service is provided to clients. This is achieved by ensuring a strong team environment within the business and developing positive relationships with staff.

Her experience is in providing excellent business advice, coaching and support to small to medium enterprises and professional clients on general accounting, taxation and business advisory. This includes a diverse range of industries including trade, retail, building industry, medical and not for profits. She has a strong understanding of taxation legislation and its practical application.

Emma’s focus is to assist in providing the most effective business and tax advice so that the best outcome can be achieved. This includes ensuring tax compliance is met as well as helping clients grow, increase their profits and ultimately succeed. She enjoys connecting with business owners and developing a relationship in which they can work together to achieve the desired result.

Kirstie Bateup

Chief Executive Officer

Kirstie completed her Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) degree in 2000 and has since been working as a dedicated bookkeeper across a broad and diverse range of industries. She has gained detailed knowledge in relevant bookkeeping processes, along with a working knowledge of procedures necessary to do so in an efficient manner whilst ensuring compliance with statutory requirements. As Manager of our internal Bookkeeping division she provides invaluable assistance to our clients.

Her ability to readily ascertain the hierarchy of needs allows her to highlight the priority tasks and to work with the business owner to reach their goals.

She is proactive and resourceful. An accomplished consultant who is well-versed in developing solutions & implementing positive changes to achieve sustainability and growth for clients.

Known for strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to build and maintain profitable relationships with clients, Kirstie has been the CEO of Henson Lloyd Accountants since January 2018. Along with the management of our internal Bookkeeping Division, her role as CEO includes assisting our administration to streamline operations, human resource management, and the management of our own financial data, preparing meaningful management reports to be used for decision making.
